Top 10 populous cities of Pakistan

A rapid growth in Pakistan’s population has been seen after conducting the recent census 2017. The country has reached the 9-digit figure (207,774,521). According to the latest census 2017 report, below are the list of Top 10 Populated cities of Pakistan:

 

#10- Quetta:

Quetta is the capital and also the largest city of Balochistan. Due to numerous fruit orchards in and around it and the large variety of dry fruits produced there, the city is also referred to as “The Fruit Garden of Pakistan”. According to the latest census report, the total population of Quetta is 1,001,205.

#9- Islamabad:

Islamabad is the capital city of Pakistan with a population of 1,014,825. The name of the city is derived from the two words “Islam” and “Abad” which when combines, forms “City of Islam”.

#8- Multan:

Multan is one of the biggest cities of Pakistan located in Punjab province. The city is also called “City of Saints” due to a large collection of Sufi Shrines. According to the census 2017, the total population of the city is 1,197,384.

#7- Hyderabad:

Hyderabad is a city of Pakistan, located in the Sindh province. And is also the second largest city of Sindh. According to the latest census 2017, the recorded population of the city is 1,732,693.

#6- Peshawar:

Peshawar is the capital and also the largest city of the province Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Census 2017 records the total population of Peshawar, which is 1,970,042.

#5- Gujranwala:

Gujranwala is an industrial city located in the Punjab province. The city is the fifth most populous city of Pakistan. According to the census 2017 report, the population of Gujranwala is 2,027,001.

Rawalpindi which is also called ‘Pindi’ is the city located in the Punjab province. The economy of the city is linked with Islamabad, and both the cities are also known as “Twin Cities”. According to the recent census 2017 report, the city is ranked at number four with the population of 2,098,231.

#3- Faisalabad:

Faisalabad is one of the industrial and the third most populous city of Pakistan, located in the Punjab Province. The city is famous for the production of Cotton, Wheat, Sugarcanes, fruits, and vegetables. According to census 2017, the population of the city is 3,203,846.

Lahore is the capital city of the Punjab province and the second largest city of Pakistan. Lahore is ranked on number 32 in the world as the most populous city. Lahore is the historic cultural Centre of Punjab. The city is also a major and important centre of education in Pakistan comprising of Pakistan’s top leading universities and colleges. According to the latest census report, the population of Lahore is 11,126,285.
