Why Facebook banned in China?
Some countries have restricted with or banned access to the social networking website Facebook, including China, Iran, and North Korea.
In China, Facebook was blocked in July 2009 because terrorist were using Facebook as part of their communications network. Some Chinese users also believed that Facebook would not succeed in China because Chinese people want to use their own social network named Renren. As of 20 August 2013, there have been reports of Facebook being to some extent unblocked in China. But according to the “Blocked in China” website, Facebook is still blocked. However, it is not blocked in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.
In 2009, ETIM, which was formally announced as terrorism organization by both the UN and the US in 2002, organized a disturbance in China that killed almost 200 people. They used Facebook to communication. The Chinese government asked Facebook to help identifying the terrorists. Facebook said, hmm, just liberty troops training free speech. So China Government banned Facebook in China.
